About Playa Del Carmen

Brief history
Simply known as “Playa,” this booming Mexican-Caribbean tourist destination of 60,000 residents is a beautiful fishing village sanctuary on the Mayan Riviera.

Culture & Traditions
Experience Playa’s Bohemian charm and tranquil feel with a relaxing day on the white sand and crystal-clear Caribbean waters, take a brief excursion to Cozumel for a scuba-diving adventure or explore the nearby Mayan ruins. While today Playa is frequented by American tourists, the city still maintains its native charm. Swim with the dolphins in the Mayan Riviera for an unforgettable nautical ride, surf the waves of the Mexican coast, or snorkel amongst the array of marine life inhabiting the pristine waters. Playa is undeniably best known for its deep sea fishing. Book a deep-sea fishing boat with friends and if you’re lucky you may return with a marlin as tall as you! Who’s ready for dinner?

Nearby cities to check out
- Cozumel: A diver’s dream, Cozumel offers one of the best scuba diving destinations in the world. Swim amongst schools of fish along the reefs and shallow coral formations while taking in the incredible view of the Mexican Caribbean’s largest island
- Cancun: Dance the night away with friends and meet other American students at one of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations. Cancun is notorious for its bars and lounges, perfectly suited for a fun night out on the town
